Short Summary Regional political framework concerning new services offered in railway stations
Région Rhône Alpes is responsible for providing its citizens regional train transport services, and has invested significant amounts of money to enhance infrastructures and service levels. However, the monopolistic operator whom the Region has an obligation to use for its train services, SNCF, does not deliver satisfactory quality level services. Therefore, Région Rhône Alpes is defining an action plan to improve the services that passengers deserve when using regional trains.
The action plan consists in six axes :
Axis 1 : improve passenger information
- Provide reliable and easily accessible information about train services and traffic conditions
- Improve information in railway stations, including train delays, connections with other transport modes
- Provide reliable on-board information in case of traffic disruptions
- Make traffic information more reliable and accountable
Axis 2 : improve passenger comfort whilst waiting for a train
- Improve waiting areas for passengers
- Reinforce image and identity of Rhône Alpes stations
Axis 3 : increase the use of regional trains by implementing more attractive prices and by building capacity
- Create inter-regional fares for journeys beyond the borders of Rhône Alpes
- Encourage new categories of customers to use the train
- Improve capacities and comfort in trains
Axis 4 : easing access to train tickets
- Develop new channels for ticket acquisition
- Foster intermodal transport
- Develop promotion and community involvement
Axis 5 : Develop the combined use of train and bicycle
- Propose attractive prices
- Reinforce communication in railway stations about specific bicycle services
Axis 6 : promote touristic, cultural and sports activities through the usage of train
- Build actions around specific events
- Build long-term partnerships with cultural venues
- Promote and develop transport + sports packages
