Description
Major objectives Improve acces to medical services in remote areas
Short Summary Reducing inequality of access to health services for citizens
Medical demography appears to become of crucial importance for mountain and rural territories in France because of ageing physicians’ population not being followed up. This is the reason Region passed a specific policy to address this issue.
There is a geographical zoning for this policy implementation, referring to regional studies about medical demography, identifying fragile areas according to the age of active physicians. This action plan is not strictly dedicated to mountain (Alpine) areas, but public initiative foreseen to offset lack of private providers in sparsely populated areas benefits de facto to the Alps.
Two different components in this action plan:
• Financial support to encourage physicians in spending a part of their University course in rural areas, to get to know the reality of practicing in remote areas (100 grants per year)
• Financial support to local authorities, which appeal to the regional level, in creating multipurpose health centers: Region funds acquisition and transformation of equipment room. The centre must accommodate different healthcare professionals: physician, nurse, physiotherapist… Preliminary assessment is required to check necessity and feasibility of the project. Beneficiaries of these projects have to share a common approach, not only material means.
